She enjoys the contrast of working on contemporary interior design projects as much as traditional and whilst at Colefax, spent many years working on corporate projects.

Kemble Interiors

Celerie Kemble’s childhood was in many ways a design tutorial spent in construction sites, antique stores, and in the unique houses designed by her mother, Mimi McMakin of Palm Beach’s Kemble Interiors. After graduating from Harvard, Celerie worked briefly in film production trying unsuccessfully to resist what she calls a compulsion for design and home improvement. As she puts it, “I dove in 1997 and haven’t come up for air yet.”

Since then, Celerie has been working primarily in Florida and New York helping her clients to, in the words of Michael Boodro of House Beautiful, “incorporate the serendipitous and the sentimental without losing clarity or strength.” Celerie finds much inspiration in the ever changing world of New York fashion by ultimately believing design is an expression of individuality, whim, and imagination — not a product of trends or rules.

“My style is uniquely suited to each client and, due to the younger age of much of my clientele, that’s all over the map. I think what remains cohesive across our body of work is an infusion of colorful vitality and design irreverence. I enjoy a mix of vintage, traditional, and contemporary that’s unencumbered by a fixed formula. Whether I am designing a modern space or a more traditional one, there is always a focus on warmth so the place looks like home, a delightful, exciting place, but home nonetheless.”

Herald and Weekly Times Loft by CARR Design

CARR is a multi-skilled firm of Architects and Interior Designers. Long recognized
for a contemporary aesthetic and sharp focus on detail, CARR is one of the most
respected design firms in Australia. This is interior design in Herald and
Weekly Time building, some portfolio of CARR.

The brief was to customise this Melbourne apartment – within the historic Herald and
Weekly Time building – to meet the client’s specific needs for loft volumes, a canvas on
which to highlight an extensive collection of artwork and increased storage space.

An original scheme put forward by base building architects rendered the mezzanine
suitable for storage only. Through considered planning and intelligent redesign of
mechanical and hydraulic services, the design team was able to sigificantly
increase the value of the mezzanine level to accommodate a guest bedroom, guest
bathroom, media room, library and art store.

Despite the client’s practical requirements, of which there were many, the apartment
has maintained the lofty, inspired feel of a New York style studio. Spaces have been
maximized without the apartment feeling at all crowded. If anything, the overall ambiance
is one of spaciousness.

The result is a modern, contemporary interior contrasted with glimpsed views of the
historic architecture and awe-inspiring outlook over inner Melbourne. The double
height living spaces and refined color palette provide texture and depth reflecting a
clear sensitivity to the space, the client’s needs and to the location.

Hollywood Reinvention – Interior design by Mark Cutler

Mark Cutler brings his unique design sense to bear on a glamorous Hollywood mansion previously owned by silent film star Pola Negri. Compleately renovating the home from top to bottom, Cutler incorporated traditional elements, but gave the house a fresh, cotemporary look. The new streamlined kitchen and bathrooms are contrasted with modern decorative pieces, done in a simple color palette that highlights the dramatic backdrop. This home was featured in Metropolitan Home as Home of the Month.
