Interior Design Program

Interior design is the balance of form and function. It is practically dancing with aesthetics, all under budget. It is solving design problems creatively and effectively, no matter the job. It is a collaborative effort as well. Interior designers must seamlessly work with individual consumers, contractors, consultants, and architects to ensure they create the perfect environment.

From commercial to residential properties, you will discover that ergonomics, renovation, architecture, psychology, and the business side of this profession can be just as important as having a sense of style.

At The Art Institute, we’ll take you from a student to a graduate by teaching you in environments that simulate the actual workplace. You will learn how to apply what you have learned to 2-D and 3-D design, as well as computer-aided drafting techniques.

As graduation nears, you will receive guidance on assembling a portfolio of your work – one of the most important tools that you have to show off your creativity and ability to potential employers. We will help you choose which pieces to features in your portfolio, as well as instruct you in professional portfolio presentation techniques.

Graduates are prepared for positions such as assistant designer, interior designer, facility and space planner and project designer. With experience, you may advance to senior designer and project manager.

Interior Designers work in places such as design firms, contracting firms, retail companies, hospitality design firms, and some may even own their own design firms.

This Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program is 192 quarter credits and takes as little as 36 months to complete.
