The works of alumni and faculty of the CSULA. Department of Art have helped define the L.A. aesthetic for over four decades. Frank Romero and Carlos Almaraz of Los Four, Kent Twitchell and Gronk represent some of the talented artists who found their unique styles while students here. The tradition continues as galleries, museums and venues around the world seek out the work of our students and faculty for important exhibitions and installations.

Animation, computer graphics and Fashion complement the traditional areas in studio and design, and our location near the heart of L.A. facilitates partnerships with the entertainment industry and community-based arts organizations.

Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the Department of Art has important strengths in Art History and Art Education, with opportunities for student research and internships in the outstanding collections of the Los Angeles area and at exciting sites around the world students have helped unveil the biblical city of Urkesh and explain the mythological roots of Mesoamerican earthworks. Student interns learn curatorial skills and gallery operations on campus at the prestigious Luckman Gallery and the student-centered Fine Arts gallery, which also host lectures, demonstrations, and multi-media events.

Student organizations such as Clay Club, Fashion Industry Council and Duchamp’s Leg foster a rewarding sense of community and organize exhibits, fashion shows, and conferences, and join with other campus organizations for poetry readings, concerts, and film festivals.
