From Interior Design Schools
Interior Design is a professionally oriented Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (F.I.D.E.R.) accredited program. It is housed in the Department of Art and Design, which allows the student a unique opportunity to experience a highly aesthetically oriented program with exposure to a wide variety of design and art courses.
Courses
- Drafting for Interior Design Interior drafting techniques for complete working drawings in plan and elevation, interior millwork, introduction to codes, standards, ink and lettering.
- Interior Graphics Introduction to basic black and white interior graphic communication techniques.
- Visualization and Illustration Three-dimensional sketch techniques which allow a designer to quickly develop design concepts with accuracy and freedom.
- Introduction to Interior Design Aesthetic, psychological, and socioeconomic aspects of interior design. Integration of interior design principles: color, space planning, furniture selection, creative expression, and product information.
- Residential Interior Design Introductory experience in interior design, including studio work, creative aesthetics, spatial arrangements, and design process programming.
- Basic Building and Mechanical Systems and Codes Fundamentals of building systems and codes as related to interiors, including construction products and techniques, acoustics, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and cooling.
- Design Presentation Techniques Creative design presentation technique, architectural graphics, product presentation boards, three dimensional model design problems, and use of color media.
- Space Planning Introduction to interior space planning for typical residential and commercial projects. Design considerations, human dimensions, and anthropometrics. Design for special populations: children, aged, and physically challenged.
- Interior Design Tours A sampling of architecture and interior design space. Tours include northern, central, and southern California architecture. Residential and contract showrooms visited.
- History of Architecture and Interiors: Ancient World to Baroque Period A stylistic survey of characteristics common to each historical period of architectural and furniture design.
- History of Architecture and Interiors: Baroque to Modern A stylistic survey of characteristics common to each historical period of architectural and furniture design.
- Interior Lighting Introduction to lighting of residential and commercial interiors. Laboratory testing and lighting calculations.
- Interior Design Materials and Specifications Selection, specifications, and computations for interior design materials available for residential, commercial, and institutional design.
- Professional Interior Design Practices Basic principles, procedures, and office systems necessary to professionally organize and carry through a creative interior design project from the initial client contact to final billing and collecting.
- Restoration and Preservation Principles and methods of restoration, case studies of the restoration and preservation of historically significant structures in the United States, as suggested by the Department of the Secretary of the Interior. Working drawings, details, and specifications.
- Contemporary Furniture Design Emergence of contemporary furnishings and interiors, forces, architects and designers responsible for 20th century designs. Emphasis on change in form, style, materials, and client demand. Design process from concept to millwork.
- Interior Architectural Graphics and Models Three dimensional interior architectural models and graphic techniques integrating color and composition and its impact on design communication.
- Advanced Residential Interior Design A series of advanced creative design solutions for residential environments. Design for new construction, remodeling, and restoration for a variety of lifestyles, budgets, and physical conditions.
