DHI strives to create spaces that provide a deep sense of comfort and intimacy. "Our designs are rooted in the architectural principles of balance, light, space and color; and we use these to engender feelings of serenity and amass rooms of unassuming beauty." DHI strives to create a sense of permanence in each room; designing spaces that people enjoy and truly feel content with when spending time in them.
"The rooms are always sensitively and sensuously colored, in warm soft tones. Our designs are timeless. We combine formal and more casual furniture, period with modern, antique textiles and custom upholstery, rare objects with simple ones and art in a masterful mix. DHI's rooms can often have a meditative understatement, but they always have impact. We design beautiful custom-made furniture, window treatments, and floor coverings and have plans to develop signature collections in each of these areas. Our residential practice has included homes in New York, California, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Recent projects include the creation of a full floor home in a new building on East End Avenue, a Tribeca loft, the development and construction of a new home in Westport, CT. a rehearsal hall and music studio near Lincoln Center and a Newport, RI. based Yacht as well as the 2003 Southampton Designer Show House."
