SITE interior design turned a small Cape Town bakery into a stylish restaurant and bar that serves its famous baked goods and locally crafted beer to a growing number of design-savvy patrons.
The designers had to work with a very limited budget and deliver a solution at break-neck speed. “The kicker: the bakery had to run the entire time we were on site!”. In close association with GRAFT Construction Management, SITE interior design conceptualized the bakery as a space to be crafted with as much care as the pastries and with materials as basic as flour and water.
To this end a simple, bold palette of natural, rough cut timber and dark painted steel was selected. The planning was done around the functioning of the bakery as a wholesale supplier but mindful that it had to also appeal to the taste buds and aesthetic demands of a design-sensitive Cape Town public.
