edar and Steel are the Protagonists of Cedar & Steel Bunkhouse Bastrop, designed by Panton Architect – Austin, Texas. Bridging a ravine with a two-story cedar and steel screened porch that indulges outdoor living while creating a path into the forest.
This project is a result of collaboration between Henry and a Film Director. The Director wanted a weekend retreat as well as quarters for frequent guests from the entertainment world. The result was a dwelling that invites outdoor living with a 19 foot tall screened porch and cantilevered outdoor shower. The two-story porch runs the entire length of the heated bunk, bed and kitchen spaces. Designed to be comfortable without air conditioning, a series of eleven eight foot tall french doors can be opened to convert the entire house into a living and sleeping porch.
Principal Materials: Locally grown and milled smooth sawn cedar siding and timbers. Brazilian hardwood decking over exposed steel framed girders on concrete piers, maple cabinets, white oak wood floors, standing seam metal roof
